Hi experts!

In our company we have a program called 'R3PM' and we want to use it as a named range. But we get the error: "The syntax of this name isn't correct." Why do we get this error? Is it because letter 'R' is reserved and after it comes a number (3)?

Thanks for the answers!

Roy

Hold down the Ctrl key while dragging tab for Sheet1 to the right. Excel will make a copy of the worksheet.
Hi Roy,

You can't use the uppercase and lowercase characters "C", "c", "R" or "r" as a defined name, because they are all used as a shorthand for selecting a row or column for the currently selected cell when you enter them in a Name or GoTo textbox.

Use an underscore (_) as first character. (_R3PM)

Hi Bob, yes that's what I found in the Help too, but I thought only if using just one letter, not in the beginning of a word... It sounded so unlikely... But there is the 3 too so...

We use _R3PM now (pitty for the formula that uses the named range name) of RPPPM :D

R3PM is being read as Row 3 Column PM (in R1C1 notation)

Actually, that's the slightly daft part - R3PM would not be a valid reference in R1C1 format. (cell PM1 would be R1C429)

Remark: this is language dependent.
In languages other than English you might have problems for ex. with L or Z instead of R.
