Can I get some help with this SUMIFS Formula?

I'm trying to get this SUMIFS formula to work, but I can't seem to figure it out. I'd love a bit of guidance. Thanks.

The table shows the results I'm trying to achieve. Here's what I tried, but doesn't work:

=SUMIFS($D$1:$D$6,$C:$C,A1)

Edit: The formula would be in column "B" and dragged down for each item in column "A".

Problem solved. Used =SUMIF($C:$C,A1,$D:$D) and it did what I was looking for.

The reason your first one failed is the sum range and the criteria range(s) need to be the same length. D1:D6 and C:C are not the same length in terms of number of cells.

While SUMIFS would return #VALUE ! when the ranges it reference are not equally sized, the old SUMIF goes ahead and calculates what it can.
