Excel Facts

How to fill five years of quarters?
Type 1Q-2023 in a cell. Grab the fill handle and drag down or right. After 4Q-2023, Excel will jump to 1Q-2024. Dash can be any character.
Hello,

If you keep your ribbon maximized ...

you will have both the latest font color And the latest fill color ... :)

Hope this will help

Hello,

Is it a recent problem ...?

Have you modified / customized your ribbon ...?

Under the Home Menu ...the first section is Clipboard and the second section is Font ... where you have both icons ...

Hi James006,

Yes it is a recent problem.

Example if I used fill color green last, then if I close excel and reopen it I find green in the fill color (as the picture).
But now the color is always changing to yellow!

Hi again,

Closing and Opening back Excel will load your template ...

It could be that you have inadvertently save a new template ...

Recommendation from Debra :

You can create a new default template, with grey as the default fill
colour:

Create a new, blank workbook.
Choose Tools>Options
On the Colour tab, click on the yellow square
Click Modify, select light grey that you want to use as the default,
click OK
To make yellow available, select the light grey square, and change it to
yellow, click OK.
Choose File>Save As
From the Save As Type dropdown, choose Template (*.xlt)
Name the File "Book.xlt"
Save it in the XLStart folder
(you can search for this -- in Windows XP it may be in
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\
Application Data\Microsoft\Excel)

When you start Excel, or click the New button on the toolbar, the new
workbook will be based on this template.

Hope this will help

Hi James006

Thanks for trying to help me but what I want is, if I use a color blue (or red or whatever color is) then it will be in the fill icon as the picture even when I close and open Excell.

I am not asking for a default color but I want Excel to always remember last color that I used.

I'm not sure that what your asking for is possible (at leats not easily).
