Opening a file cause certain links to show incorrect value

Hi all,

I have an Excel file, let's call it Month End, that has lots of external links to other Excel files. Thing is, when I open an Excel file (not one that is link to Month End), certain links don't show the correct value anymore, I have to reopen the source file so that the correct value shows up again. Does someone know what could cause this sort of behavior?

The links could be simple "=cell" or sumproduct and it doesn't return an error like if I add a sumifs function link to a closed file.

It's a file where I compare the data from this month to last year and it's always the data from last year that's causing problem.

I don't know how to explain this better, because it's never happened to me before.

Thanks in advance.

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
