So yeah I used basic cell reference to other workbook, then I deleted this workbook, but numbers stayed ?
When I try renter this formula, all it asks me is to find file path, once I cancel it just take numbers from deleted file.
I was expecting it to give an Error..

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Yes that is how Excel behaves

Excel remembers values for all references already in the workbook even after the other workbook has been deleted
eg if this was already in the workbook it returns the original value
='C:\TestArea\[DeletedFile.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$1

and the value is also returned if the same formula is placed in a different cell

Excel cannot find a new reference in the deleted workbook
- a NEW reference returns an error
='C:\TestArea\[DeletedFile.xlsx]Sheet1'!$A$2
and this returns an error
='C:\TestArea\[DeletedFile.xlsx]Sheet2'!$A$1

How do I make Excel forget?
- delete the reference
- save the workbook
- close the workbook
- reopen
