Default When "word" is in A1, put a number 5 in C1, etc. (Rows need to align)

I am hoping that this is possible + easy! I am Excel-challenged.

I have a bunch of data. Certain words appear in various columns. I'd like to be able to direct Excel to:

If "word" resides in A1, put a "5" in C1.
And so on, so Excel will continue down all rows, looking for "word" in Col A,
and if there, adding a 5 to the same row Col C.

Thank you SO much in advance!!
