Hi

I have a row of test scores and I would like to show in the same cell next to the score an arrow that points up if the score is higher than the previous cell and an arrow pointing down if it's less. If the score is the same either an = or nothing.

Can this be achieved with conditional formatting?

Thanks

Gibby

How can you turn a range sideways?
Copy the range. Select a blank cell. Right-click, Paste Special, then choose Transpose.
More likely be able to do it in an adjacent cell, but not the same cell...!!!

Not that I can see: you cannot use cell references in icon set conditional formats. I would put it in the next column, base the formatting on a formula that subtracts the number from the one above, using an up arrow for positive numbers, horizontal (or blank) for a zero difference and a down arrow for negative values. You can show just the icon, so the difference values are hidden.

Something like

Excel 2013/2016
G
31
4? 2
5? 3
6? 1
7? 2
8? 4
9? 7
Data

Select G4:G9 & use
=G4<g3
& custom format ▼ ?0</g3
