Hi,

I am trying to insert an rss feed from the web into Excel, but this seems to have stopped working ever since May 2019.

The link I am trying to insert is:

https://www.totaljobs.com/JobSearch/RSS.aspx?Keywords=Performing-arts&LTxt=Birmingham&Radius=10

The data appears correct when you first do the initial web query and click [go] ... it shows the data I'm looking for in the window, plus the fact that it's[h=2]XML V1.0 and UTF-8[/h] <!--?xml version = "1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?-->.

I have a number of these links already inserted into a spreadsheet pre May 19, and the same addresses (apart from a different location in the URL) went in fine and each has their own tab and table, but during the last few weeks after I click import, excel simply hangs with the message " Contacting the server for information. Press ESC to cancel.".

This is now happening on both Excel 2010 and 2017.

Is there anything I can do to get the RSS feed importing properly again. as they were doing 6 weeks ago?

Thanks

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
I just added the source of the link you provided in PowerQuery as a new web source, and it seems to work fine.

I would give doing it through PowerQuery. Web queries have always seemed really finicky to me.

Hi,

I have downloaded and installed PowerQuery and then used [insert from web] from here.

Unfortunately the only thing that is imported is 2 columns and 2 rows ... that say
and 2 .... none of the data seems to be imported!

If you can let me know what I'm doing wrong that would be great!

Thanks

could you post link to your shared excel file? (use GoogleDrive, OneDrive or any similar)

or check this file: RSS

Hi Sandy666

That link is exactly what I need, and the type of information I used to get when simply typing the url as the source.

I have added further info for you, and this can be downloaded from here:

I'm really not sure what happened since Mid May, so maybe a Windows Update has caused the issue?

you need to expand table
then you should see next table column
expand the second table then delete all unnecessary columns
and load data into worksheet

rss.jpg

you can select item only from the first list, will be easier
