This recently appeared, and I can't put my finger if it was before or after my HD crashed...

When I launch Excel and hit Alt+F (Windows 10), it brings up the "Home" screen. (Not the Home TAB, the Home SCREEN. Argh, Microsoft!)

Underneath the templates, and the list of recently-used files, I'm getting a big honking "Recommended" file.

I don't want it. I can't imagine why Bill Gates is recommending it. And I want to turn this feature off.

Unfortunately, none of the Googling I can think of will alleviate this.

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
