I have a workbook that I did a long time ago in Excel 2000. Now I want to convert it to Excel 2016. So this is what I did. I clicked on File then on Export and change file type to macro enabled. But when I clicked OK, I got this pop up that said the following:

"One or more formulas in this workbook are longer than the allowed limit of 8,192 characters. To avoid this limitation, save the workbook in the Excel Binary workbook format"

I checked all of the formulas and none of them are 8,192 characters long. All of my formulas are all short. I'm not even capable of doing formulas that long. My formulas are all very basic addition and multiplication ones. How come this is happening?? Any advice on how I can solve this problem?

Sounds like you have "Hide extensions for known file types" selected in the folder options.
You will need to select "Excel binary workbook"

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
Sorry!! I'm not an expert in Excel. How do I unhide extension. What does selecting "Excel binary workbook" do?? I have a lot of macros in the workbook. If I save it as "Excel binary workbook" does that dissable the macros??

Binary workbooks are macro enabled, so your macros will be fine.
You don't need to change the folder settings.
