I have a workbook that I did a long time ago in Excel 2000. Now I want to convert it to Excel 2016. So this is what I did. I clicked on File then on Export and change file type to macro enabled. But when I clicked OK, I got this pop up that said the following:

"One or more formulas in this workbook are longer than the allowed limit of 8,192 characters. To avoid this limitation, save the workbook in the Excel Binary workbook format"

I checked all of the formulas and none of them are 8,192 characters long. All of my formulas are all short. I'm not even capable of doing formulas that long. My formulas are all very basic addition and multiplication ones. How come this is happening?? Any advice on how I can solve this problem?

What happens if you use "Save As"

If I use "Save As" it saves the file as Excel 2000 and I just override the old file. I don't get the pop up at all. I only get the pop up as described above when I try to convert the file to Excel 2016.

When you "SaveAs" you need to change the file type to xlsm

Hi Fluff
When I do a "SaveAs", I don't see the extension xlsm on my list of choices. So I picked "macro enabled workbook" and I got the pop up again.

In that case try saving as an xlsb format.
