ok so I pretty much just discovered conditional formatting and loving it! however I can only get the one cell to change color, I want to get the whole row to change. So I have one cell that if it has a negative number only that cell changes to red but I want that entire row to become read so it visually stands out more.

I think i have to create a table? but I don't know how to do that either.

Excel Facts

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
If you select all the data & use a formula like
=$O2<0
it will highlight the row.

No need to create a table, per se...
Just select the whole range where you want the conditional format to apply (whilst you CAN get the whole row to change colour, I'm guessing that you actually only want a certain number of columns in each row to be highlighted).
I just chose A8:C20, for example.
Then go to "Conditional Formatting" / "New Rule" / "Use a Formula" / In the box "Format values where this formula is true" box type (or paste) =$A8<0.
Then go to "Format" and set your colour etc, as you have been doing already, then "OK" everything.

Replace "A8" in my example, with the reference of the topmost cell in your data whose column you want to check for negatives.

That should be it!
