trim not working

I am trying to use =trim(D2), but it is acting like I am not using a formula. It is just displaying =trim(D2) in the cell. The field I am looking at is an address field so they start with numbers, if that makes a difference.

Thanks for any help.

Chech that the cell is not formatted as text & also check that you have not selected "Show formulas" on the formula tab

Try pressing F2 to enter the Cell and then come out and see if the formula then populates. I have had this a number of times when changing from text to general but the Cell not updating until it has been entered and exited

also make sure that you don't have a space before the = sign

No space before = and F2 didn't work. The weird thing is I went to another sheet within the same book, that has an address and I was able to use the trim function with no problem. Do I need to do something to the formatting of the cells?

We did a workaround and got it going. I copied the data to a new sheet and was able to trim with no problem. Weird stuff.

Thanks.

Are there are formulae on that sheet that work normally?
