Autofilter omitting some columns and I can't work out why

There are headers in the top row for all columns. There are no gaps between columns. Columns A, B and C are frozen.

I put autofilter on and it's fine. Then sometimes after I have been merrily using the spreadsheet for a while I notice that columns A and B are not in the filter.

This is scaring me as I don't know what and why!

Can anyone shed any light?

Many thanks

Excel Facts

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
Is there any VBA code in the workbook that could account for the autofilter being changed?
Does "merrily using" include column deletions or additions?
I have noticed with Excel 2016 there are sometimes graphical glitches that cause controls/text/comment indicators to not be shown, even though they are present. Could the autofilter still be present, but not repainted?

Type this in the immediate window of the VBE...

Code:
?activesheet.autofilter.range.address

...and it will report the range that is currently included in the autofilter.

Alt+F11 to show the VBE
Ctrl+G to show the Immediate window once the VBE has focus

Thank you for the help - I think it may be that i was using advanced search instead of search from within the filter. and the area for the search was not all the columns.
I appreciate you taking the time to help!
