Macro for converting text to numbers

I have an entire column that I need to perform a sumif calculation on. Problem is, when the file was originally exported, it converted all the numbers to text. Can anyone help me with the code that will convert an entire column's entries from text to numbers?

Thanks!

Press F7 to start spell check in Excel. Be careful, by default, Excel does not check Capitalized Werds (whoops)
No code needed. Just select the column of data, choose the Data | Text to Columns... menu command and press [ Finish ].

I can't seem to get that to work. It tells me that the data is delimited and then i go through a 3 step process. At that point, the text still remains text and not numeric. Is there something else I need to do?
