formula not working

For some reason my formula do work
eg. after I type in =if(..,..,..) and enter
the cell just show what I have typed in
=if(..,..,..)
Why does it do that?

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)

Is your cell formatted as text?
