Customized Database Driven Graphs

Greetings, I am currently working on a project that will require
custom graphs/charts used in a customized report, database driven.

The client I am working for would like to use Excel or Access, but I
am wondering how customized and/or professional I can get the output
to be.

I have also considered using applescripts to generate the graphs in
Acrobat or Illustrator.

So far my web research has not provided much resource to helping me
create a final product.

Does anyone have a program, website, plugin they could recommmend or
direct me to?
