Checking whether a file has a change history

I've written some code for my QC dept to loop through the dozen or so files I've created for them, extract the change history and paste to a new sheet, then deprotect and reprotect the file for sharing.

Easy enough, but I was wondering whether the file could be checked before it's opened to see whether or not it actually has a change history. I initially used an error trap, but obviously you need to open the file, which takes time. FileDateTime checked against a variable seemed promising but could mean opening a file which has no change history but has simply been opened and saved.

Thanks for any help.
