Go to ->blank not working

Hello,
I have problem selecting the blank cells in a column
First, I fill down the whole column with a if formula.
Then, I go to copy/paste special->values to clear the formula
Finally, I go to GOTo->special->blank, but it still can't select the cells which don't have the values in it
Did I miss any steps?
Please help
Thank you in advance

Excel Facts

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
When I tried to fill down the column by double clicking the black cross on the lower right corner of a cell and it didn't work.
So I just drag the cell down. Could that cause any problems?
Thanks

Maybe that your cells still contains spaces and they are not blanks. Perform search for spaces or try to find the first code by
=code(A1,1) for blank in A1. if you get 32 then it is a space character.

Select an unused cell, type =, select 10-20 cells of your troublesome column of data, press F9, copy the results from the formula bar and paste into a reply posting.

Hi Mark
I used the step you showed me a couple of days ago
-Select the whole column
-go to Data->Text to Columns->Finish
Then I go to GOTo->special->blanks and it works
What does Text to Columns do anyway?Its very useful

It parses the column, removing trailing spaces. If a cell contains nothing but spaces it empties the cell. It also gives Excel another "look" at the values in the cells. If it finds "10" or "3/11/02" it will coerce these text values to a number and date value respectively.
