I need to know how i can protect a cell which contain some important information , constant value or formula which i don't want that any one should rewrite.
AS manay times it happen that the cell which has formula in it is over-rewritten by mistake and the huge formula is Lost.

Excel Facts

Spell Check in Excel
Press F7 to start spell check in Excel. Be careful, by default, Excel does not check Capitalized Werds (whoops)
In Excel, go up to the top of the screen and click Help. search on protection. If you still can't figure it out, repost the question.

On the cell in question, make sure you right-click, choose format, click the protection tab and make sure LOCKED is checked.

Now protect the sheet (tools->protection->protect sheet.....)

Hope this helps. Cheers,
Nate

A couple of additional points: all cells are locked by default, but this locking does not go into effect until you protect the sheet.
You may want to protect your sheet with a password, also.
Choose Protection under the Tools menu.

I believe in Excel2002 (or XP or whatever it's called) there is an option to protect individual cells. I had this discussion with someone last week.

Unforunately I do not own Excel 2002 or else I would give you more details. If you don't have it and this formula is worth a couple of hundred (pounds, dollars, euros) then Iwould suggest getting 2002. :)

In excel 97, you can selectively Protect cells in a round about way.
first Unprotect the sheet,
Remove the lock for cells you DO NOT want protection, by selecting the cells, then choose Format-> cells-> Protection, uncheck locked.
and then protect the sheet.
Now, your cell will be protected!
