I want to have a true/false result if the cell contains text, eg if(B4 contains text, 1,0). Is this poss?

=ISTEXT(A1)

If you need {1,0} rather than {TRUE,FALSE} you can coerce the results using an arithmetic operator...

=ISTEXT(A1)+0
