Send command to SQL Server

I would like to be able to send a command to a SQL Server through an excel routine. I would like to execute a stored procedure or start a job.

SQL Statement example:
1)USE msdb
EXEC sp_start_job @job_name = 'NightlyBackup'

Does anyone have sample code for establishing a connection and sending the command? How do I specify the database to use in the code?
