Dragging down cells containing names

Hello.

This is no doubt a very simple question and I'm sure when an answer pops up I will feel silly for asking the question, but...

How can you drag and expand down a formula if that formula contains a name. For example if I have names such as Start1, Start2, Start3 , and in cell a1 i place '=Start1'. Can i then drag this down so that the following say Start2, Start3 etc. Simply dragging down doesn't seem to work.

Hope this is a clear explanation. A long day, very tired and my skills in explanation were used up by lunchtime.

Thankyou in advance.
