I have a large spreadsheet that was saved last Friday. Now when I atempt to open the file, the progress bar across the bottom gets about halfway done and then stops. The filename is diplayed at the top but there are no visible worksheets. Nothing is hidden and I don't have any macros stored in this workbook. Am I hosed?

Excel Facts

Excel Can Read to You
Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
Ensure that you only have excel running if this is a large spreadsheet, if it still hangs does CTRL ALT DEL say that excel is not responding?

If you are low on memory, try deleting your temp. internet files to free up some space.

Good luck

Any ideas?

are you opening it from "start / documents" or from the recently used file list, also even from your "favourites" ?

if so, it may have been moved and it can't be found...

if you're opening via file, open and clicking then it's something more sinister, as you probably already suspected...

Thanks for your interest in my headaches.
I'll give you a bit more detail on the problem...
The file is size 15,707kb
I can't open the folder by any means including from within Excel or just double clicking the file icon
When I do attempt to open it, the progress meter at the bottom begins to move but about halfway through everything just dissapears and I'm left
with the grey backgorund when Excel is open but no workbooks are open.
I've tried opening the file while holding Shift key to make sure I didn't put a macro in the Workbook Open clause.
I've come to the conclusion that I have somehow corrupted the data but we don't have any Excel recovery software on site so I can't tell for sure.

I did scan for viruses and nothing else seems to be having problems.

If you have further sugggestions please let me know.
Thanks Again
