HELP!!! Im a newbie at Excel having just started a course at tech. I need to know how to make a combination bar/line chart and need it explained as simply as possible :). Please help

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
I suspect that you mean a combination Line-Column chart. See the Excel Help topic for "Combination charts for showing mixed data" for an illustration. As for creating the chart I recommend that you consult the Excel Help topic for "Create a chart" and use the Chart Wizard as a step-by-step guide.

If you create the chart as one type , then highlight the data series which you want to be of a different type, click chart type and then from the list, you can select the second type of chart you want.

I think this only works with 2D charts, i.e. you cannot have a line chart over a 3D column chart - not with Excel 97 anyway
