in pivot tables, when refreshing data, often times the column widths change automatically

Is there a way to lock the columns, so they don't change, or so that you can only change them manually?

This may have been covered already, but I can't find it.

Thanks,
JonH

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
PivotTable columns are automatically sized to accommodate the maximum of field name lengths, "Grand Total" labels, and data values. If you need to increase the size of columns beyond these requirements you could assign a number format to the data values that "pads" them with spaces (e.g., instead of 0.0 use "bbbbbbbb"0.0 where "b" is a space character). Through trial and error you can find a number format that expands your columns to a uniform size larger than their defaults.

Jon,

Go into the pivot table's Options dialog box and uncheck "AutoFormat Table."

Hi Jon,

You may also find that if you have titles for your pivot table, the columns in the pivot will expand to the width of the title. I had that problem myself, however have solved it by placing the title in an merged cell.
