Search a database and copy content to another file

Hello all,

I have a large database containing almost 30 columns and 600 rows. I have a problem that maybe you experts can help me solve.

I want to make a search for a specific word in one of the columns, say column C. And for every match with that word I want Excel to copy, not only that cell, but a few more (selectd) cells in the same row as well and create a new file (workbook in .xls format) with the content. Maybe pivottable would be one way?

Problem is that I would like this file to update itself automaticlly. If I change anything in the database, I want the information in the file to change as well. And if I add a row with that same name written in column C, I want it to be added into the file.

A lot of wishes, can anyone of you see a solution in this?

All help appreciated,

Marcus Karlsson

Hey Pse,

That would do pretty well I'd say.

Let's say I have all the destinations in coulmn B in my database. Then I would like to perform a search in the database and column B only. Let's say I'll search for MIA i.e., then for all matches of MIA in column B I want Excel to copy a few selected cells on that row into a new file named "Flights to MIA" or something as you suggest.

I realise that a macro would be a great soulution for this, but then I also need to search for LAX, ORD, JFK or whatever and create an individual file for each destination also easy to update.

Do you think you know how to do this?

Kindest regards,
Marcus Karlsson

Excel Joke
Why can't spreadsheets drive cars? They crash too often!
I recieved your sheets.
All seems to be self expanatory.
I wish I knew German though.

Here is what I propose to do.
If anyone has any suggestions, please post.

Simply put, when a qualifying cell is changed on your data base, the individual destination file will be updated or created if it does not exist.

This will be done in real time without the need for any further action from the user.

I do have one further question.

How do you want the destination files to be purged of old records?

After the flight is completed?
At specific time intervals?
Or do you want the data to keep piling up?

I could not find an actual arrival time on your database, only scheduled arrival times.

How will the seperate, individual destination files know when to clear obsolete records?
