Hi,

I know that it's possible to prevent automatic updating of links between files, but is it possible to prevent users from linking to a particular file in the first place?

Thanks,
Jonh

Password protect the file to prevent unauthorised access?

Gleen,

Thanks for the reply. However, I was trying to prevent authorised users from linking to the file.

The problem is that I & others in my dept. make changes to a certain file i.e. insert/delete lines etc., this obviously will have on impact on other users outside of the dept unless their files are open at the time we are making changes to this one file.

Thanks for you help.

If you have the workbook as password protected, then users won't be able to link to it.

Glenn,

Sorry I should have pointed out that the file is protected and that several users outside of the dept. access this file on occasions (via the password on the file). Those users outside of the dept. have in the past linked their files to this one file. Obviously if I delete rows in my file which users have linked to, then this generates a #Ref error in their files.

What I was trying to do was to eliminate any attempt to link to my file, but having researched various Excel boards & the Microsoft site, I'm beginning to think that this is impossible.

Again thanks for your response.
