can a derivative of "sumproduct" be used to lookup column data.

i have the following formula:

=sumproduct((month(sheet1!A10:L10)<=month(sheet1!A1))*(sheet1!A20:L20)

Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).

I expect this formula to work if you add a closing paren at the end.
