How to speed up Excel links?

I have an extremely large spreadsheet that contains links to 300 other separate spreadsheets. Obviously this takes 2-3 minutes to start up and to calculate. How can I speed this process up? (I know I can tweak the calculation setting to manual, but the links must be updated). Maybe, I'll just have to bear with it until Intel come out with a 10 GHZ chip! Any ideas would be welcome.

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
no replies, so I'll stick my oar in......

are the 300 other files on your network ?

if possible, pop them on your hard drive ?

And, not exactly what you asked, but, con-incide the loading of your file with your coffee break or something so it's not lost time, per se.

(I know Jack in the UK does this with very large files - he rearranges all his MS Word tutorials while it's loading...)

big

Wow, 300 files... that's A LOT ! that's impossible to rearange ? reduce File count ? are all links absolutely necessary ? do you need "live" formulas ?
