What is the formula to count the number of alphabets in a cell?

Paddy's formula will give you count of all the characters in the cell.

Should we read your question as Paddy did -- or did you have something else in mind such as count the number of only alpha characters in a cell that contains alphanumeric characters?

What if I wanted to count all the alphanumerics but did not want to count any spaces?
i.e. ignore space in count.
