I wish to place 'x' and 'y' headings in the upper left corner of a document.

The x heading will be horizontal, as usual. No problem.

The 'y' heading must be rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise, so as to lie along the "spine" of the sheet.

How can I accomplish this without changing the size of a cell?

About the only thing that I know of, is when you turn the text with FORMAT:CELLS:ALIGNMENT...first, highlight a few rows above your data (if label is in cell A26, highlight A23:A26) and check the merge cells box before you hit ok.

Sly,

or pop your heading somewhere safe, rotate it your desired degrees and then take a snapshot of the resulting rotation...

(snapshot is the camera icon on the tools toolbar)

then just pop the picture ontop of where you want it to go, it will sit on top of any cells, regardless of their sizes, merging or whatever....

Jack - you forgot my camera trick :)
