is =CONCATENATE an old function or something ?

=CONCATENATE(A1,B1) seems to be much more tiresome than =A1&B1

or maybe there's some subtelties behind each ?

It is just short hand, as + is to the SUM function. Otherwise they behave identically.

Sometimes it's easier to formulate. The argument list for...

=CONCATENATE(F8,G14,E18,E9,D2,G4,I9,I17,H28,C21,B13,A8,C14,D5)

...can be completed with 14 Control+(Mouse)Clicks.

Not, that I would recommend such a formula!!!

just so long as there's no underlying subtelties between the two methods

I prefer the "&" method, although have found that clicking the relevant cell with my mouse between "&"s causes much stress on my left hand trying to hold down "shift" and "7"
