If you have a column of names (some names are the same) how do you produce a seperate table that produces a column with the names (without repetition) and then a second column showing the results of how often those names occur?

Excel Facts

What is the last column in Excel?
Excel columns run from A to Z, AA to AZ, AAA to XFD. The last column is XFD.
You can use advanced filter, unique records only option , filter to new location for to produce a list of unique names. Then use COUNTIF to count each name in the first list.

Create a PivotTable like the one show below...<html><body> <table BORDER=3 CELLSPACING=3 CELLPADDING=3 ><tr><td>Count of Name</td><td></td></tr><tr><td>Name</td><td>Total</td></tr><tr><td>Curly</td><td>1</td></tr><tr><td>Larry</td><td>3</td></tr><tr><td>Moe</td><td>2</td></tr><tr><td>Grand Total</td><td>6</td></tr></table>
 </body></html>

Thanks Ienez but I can't seem to get the COUNTIF to work.

Mark W. I did this before but I don't want a grand total, can I get rid of that?

Right-click the PivotTable, choose Options... from the popup menu, and uncheck "Grand totals for columns".
