    Dreamboat,

There is no Alternate start up file location listed. And no windows to unhide. Also found the XLSTART folder, but there's nothing in it.

Are you also viewing hidden files in your Windows XP?

    Right-click Start, hit Explore.
    Go to Tools-Folder options.
    Click the View tab.
Under Files and Folders folder, then under Hidden files and folders, make sure Show hidden files and folders is selected, and then check your XLSTART again. Of course, if you've viewing hidden files and folders already, this won't help.

    Dreamboat,

I have a file named MSCREATE in the XLSTART folder. When I click on it, another window pops up Windows cannot open this file MSCREATE.DIR

Uninstalling and reinstalling or a repair install only works some of the time. Registry entries as well as custom menus, addins, xlstart items and toolbar files are not overwritten.

This could be one of many possibilities--registry entries, custom menu/toolbar files, addins or xlstart items may be causing the problem. Try Excel in safe mode and see if the problem goes away. To run Excel in safe mode, click on Start | Run and type 'excel /s' (without the quotes) and press OK. If it works, Excel has minor configuration problems.

Since you get two free support calls with the Office suite, I'd call Microsoft Support at or 800-936-5700 or 425-635-7056 for assistance. If this isn't feasible, try the microsoft online email support.

Write me if you have any questions.
