How can I automatically select the used range of a column?

Excel Facts

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
Here's an example to select the usedrange of column A (or columns(1)):

Dim oRange As Range

Set oRange = Sheets("Sheet1").UsedRange
oRange.Columns(1).Select

You can also use the following to select the usedrange of column A:

Intersect(ActiveSheet.UsedRange, Columns("a")).Select

(Just to show how to use the Intersect method)
