    =FORECAST(x,known_y's,known_x's)

    can the range be replaced with given points instead?

    Define "points".

    points:
    for example:
    the range "known_x's" is B3:B9
    the range "known_y's" is C3:C9

    can the FORECAST be used for series of points, or x-values (like 1,3,5)

    Sure, a single array formula such as...

    {=FORECAST({4;5;6},{10;20;30},{1;2;3})}

    ...can be entered into 3 contiguous, vertically oriented cells (e.g., A1:A3) to produce...

    {40;50;60}

    Note: This is an array formula which must be entered using the Control+Shift+Enter key combination. The outermost braces, { }, are not entered by you -- they're supplied by Excel in recognition of a properly entered array formula.
