formula problem

I am trying to refer to another spreadsheet in a cell (i.e. ='Sheet1'!A1). The cell I am refering to is formatted as text - I am entering a number as 055, and need it to be 055 and not 55.

When I enter the formula into the cell, most of the time this works. However, sometimes it does not work, and refers to the formula rather than the value. So, I am seeing the actual sheet reference and not the value 055.

The cell with the formula is NOT formatted as text.

Any suggestions? This should not be hard at all...and is driving me crazy.

I'm not convinced. Are you sure it's formatted as Text?

Yes, it is formatted as test. I think this is a glitch. I have another spreadsheet that I am using which is identical, and it works fine.

If you reference a cell that has been formated as Text it is very likely that the formula cell would also take on a Text format! If you would like to see leading zero's in a number use the Custom Format: 000 Just add/take zeros as needed.
