I want to filter for an item and then count the number of incidents filtered. I know its easy, but. . .it eludes me. TIA

Re: "Several people suggested solutions; what happened when you adjusted to relevant ranges and tried the formula?"

I used the formula: =SUBTOTAL(3,D3:D409), and the it produced correct result relative to each item filtered within the range.

Dave (and all who responded), thanks for guidance. My learning curve has spiked since I discovered this site.

Excel Facts

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest

RE: Several people suggested solutions; what happened when you adjusted to relevant ranges and tried the formula?

I used this formula: =SUBTOTAL(3,range).
It gave me the total number in the range.
I then filtered the column for each items, and the cell with the formula reflected appropriate count for each filtered item.

Thanks to all who've responded. My learning curve is spiking with every MB contact.

Dave, I tried twice to reply, but neither was posted (problem?) Anyway,
The formula used: =SUBTOTAL(3,D3:D409)
It worked in the dbase to yield the total count of ALL items. Then, in the filters, it yielded the relative count for each item filtered.
SUCCESS. Thanks for the assist & guidance, to one and all! My learning curve is spiking with discovery of this site.
