If text is copied from Notepad, it stays on the clip board even through operations that delete cell contents. If a cell or range of cells is copied, it disappears from the clip board as soon as information is entered into any cell or any cell's contents are cleared.

Can this difference be controlled? If so How?

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
That's a very good question and I'd like to know the answer as well.

The one thing I can tell you is that I don't think that cells get copied to the clipboard at all, or else they would be available afterwards as you state.

I hope someone answers this one because I'm in too lazy a mood to try to find out as well.

From Ivan's source above:

"There is no Visual Basic for Applications object model for the Office Clipboard, so there is no way to programmatically manipulate it."

I'm a novice, and for me that's the end of the story. But I'll stay tuned :)

The other day, I wanted to know if something was on it, and you graciously supplied the error message box code - whiched worked right out of the box. Thanks again :)! But what I thought I wanted to do was detect if there was anything on the clip board, and then I was going to create my own error message. Like I said, I'm a novice to this. Now I'm just curious, but I know that knowing how to access the status of the clip board will come in handy. So, No, I don't have anything specific. Well not any more :)
