is it possible for VLOOKUP to return a boolean value, say:
IF the value exists in the column you are "VLlooking up" then it will return true. This would then aid in using it within an IF statement. So Iff value exists, then do this, if it doesnt, then do something else....

this is my code so far
=VLOOKUP(A5,week1.xls!$A$1:$A$10,1,0)

any help would be much appreciated. Thanx a lot. :)

Do you hate GETPIVOTDATA?
Prevent GETPIVOTDATA. Select inside a PivotTable. In the Analyze tab of the ribbon, open the dropown next to Options and turn it off

Better use MATCH for that option like in:

=ISNUMBER(MATCH(E1,G1:G10,0))

MATCH returns a row or column number if it succeeds to find a value that matches its lookup value, otherwise #N/A.

=ISNUMBER(7) returns TRUE

=ISNUMBER(#N/A) returns FALSE.
