Using VLOOKUP

On my active worksheet, I have linked to another worksheet, in another file, and used the VLOOKUP function. But I am finding that I have to have that other file open in order for the VLOOKUP function to work... otherwise my active worksheet will display #VALUE in the cell. Is this normal with EXCEL or have I done something wrong in my formula? The formula is as follows:

=SUMIF([InvAFH0104Adj0201.xls]Sched51!$D$2:$D$109,VLOOKUP($B126,'G:FH Master PlanFHMP 2002Inventory[Inventory 2002.xls]Translations'!$A$2:$C$190,3),[InvAFH0104Adj0201.xls]Sched51!$R$2:$R$109)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!)

Excel Facts

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
I will try that! Thanks!

The spreadsheets I am working with are such a mess right now, I can't update any of the links because it will throw the whole workbook off!!

Again, Thanks for your help!
