I can't stop excel once I begin highlighting so I can't enter data. Thank you.
When I move the curser the cells are highlighted and nothing else works on the spreadsheet.
I don't think I am explaining well what happens. I just want to enter data and I start selecting cells and can't stop that process. Thanks.

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
can you clarify what you mean by 'can't stop excel...'?

If this is because you are trying to highlight (or select) below the screen area, then Excel may start scrolling very fast.

If that's the case, select just the first few cells, then use the scroll bar on the right side to scroll down till you can see the last cell you want to select. Hold down the Shift key and click in that cell. All cells in between your first and last click will be selected or highlighted.
Hope this helps.

to enter data, just select one cell and type. when you've finished, press enter.

if you are trying to enter the same data in a number of cells, enter it once and drag down/across by the bottom right corner of the cell to copy.

does that help? if not could you please provide some more detail on what it is you want to do.

I occasionally have this problem and have found that I have an occasional sticky shift key. Give them a couple of taps and this generally solves the problem.
