Hi Gang,

I have a problem. I copied and pasted from a website some numbers and rather than, for example, 3.5, it is using a 1/2 SYMBOL <TABLE style="WIDTH: 49pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=65 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 49pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2377" width=65><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: white; WIDTH: 49pt; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl24 height=17 width=65>-3½</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> Therefore, in excel, I am unable to do any calulations because excel is reading the symbol and I am getting a "Value" error.

Is there any way to correct this? If not, I am going to have to manually change around 5000 of these to the decimal format.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Hi,

You could do a find and replace:

Ctrl + H:

Find What: ½
Replace With: .5

The quickest way would seem to me to go Edit/Replace on your worksheet, and change ½ to .5

I've just done it in a blank sheet, and it retained the number format okay.

Hope that helps,
Let me know if not :)
B.

Edit: too slow :p
