Recently, when I click on a menu item, it takes forever for the choice to "load". In the past, I could click FILE and at that point, all items under FILE showed up. Now when I click FILE, New shows up, then Open shows up, then close shows up, then save shows up--line item by line item they begin to show up. This is happening with all menu items. How can I stop this madness>

Excel Facts

Quick Sum
Select a range of cells. The total appears in bottom right of Excel screen. Right-click total to add Max, Min, Count, Average.
How big is your excel file? Or does this just happen in all of your files? What's the spec of your machine (RAM, OS, etc?

One suggestion that's been kicked around here recently, and I don't know if it applies in this scenario, is to have a look in your C:Temp folder to see how much garbage is in there. Look in particular for files with the extension *.emf. Deleting unnecessary files from here may help.

I have removed all garbage files from the temp folder. Memory is not a problem. There is very little stored on the hard drive. The problem still exists.

Brenda,

take a look at :

view
toolbars
customise

and see what your "menu animations" are set at

(personally, I use "none")

if it's anything else, see how this combines with your graphics capabilities in :

start
settings
control panel
system
performance
graphics

Persoanlly, I use "full"

If your'e using sliding menus and your praphics are set to low, this might be slowing it down a touch.......

probably not much help, but worth checking

OK simple cheats way, more secrets..

crtl+g
select special
tick formula and press enter

you see the black cells as these are ones with formulas in.

Oh page zoom 26% so you can see it all now squint and see the prcent of black cells .. looks bad,,, needs addressing even if jst one column...

do the sane to drop down range if diff sheet...

tidy this up if needs be,,, a different idea...
