Conditional Counting

I have been trying to work this problem out all day, and I am sure it must be something simple that I am missing.

I want to count the number of times a cell's value is over an average. This works :

=Countif('Stock Data'!F5:F24;">0,96")

but if I change it to use the cell variable, eg:

=Countif('Stock Data'!F5:F24;">E17)

It doesn't. If any one can help I will be really grateful !

Try =COUNTIF('stock Data'!F5:F24,">"&E17)

Sometimes the SUMIF form for COUNTIF works handy as an array formula. In your case:

{=SUM(IF('stock Data'!F5:F24>E17,1,0))}
