Hi.

I want to format a date as d/m. I can only find the american m/d which just won't makes sense here!

This is not on the date or custom menu. And yes, my settings are set to English UK on the control panel.

I have no idea how to create custom formats which I suspect might be required.

Thanks,

Excel Facts

Excel Can Read to You
Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
Hiya,

What happens if you go to Format-Cells-Custom and set the custom format as "d/m" (w/o the quotes)

If I understand you correctly your trying to get a date like 4/16/02 to show as 16/4.

I could get excel to do this on my machine - does excel spit that out on yours?

The underlying format will still be American though. You should check out why Excel doesn't follow your settings.

Regional Settings (Control Panel) on the General tab, choose

English [United Kingdom]

Excel will adapt accordingly.

Aladin,

Sadly, I have done that this afternoon, and it came up English UK so yes I was disappointed that even with this setting correct that I was still getting american formats. The same thingis true for my laptop :(

I will check again tomorrow to be absolutely sure.

Hi RET70 it Jack, Uk dates are backwards alwyas rem this to Excel, sadley us UK guys never made Excel :) the yanks did.

custom as explained to day month year

D DDD mmmm yyy for long in custom might only see dd mm yy select this as format to a cell reading -NOW() this should give as you want if not i have a extreamly long formula that will force excel to go Thursday 5th April 2002 no matter what.

As always Brits bing British and different, we like our dates this way.. days before months as they sould be...

only problem is if you have 4/5 11/3 3/11 what date are you actually getting there should be a world standard not back to front examples...

OK so I am biased saying this but

22/4/2002

is the logical way for dates. You are starting with the days, then month, then years.

Who on earth thought up m.d.y I have no idea.

Oh, and we drive on the correct side of the road too
