Projections/forecasting

Hi all,

New to mr excel and still relatively new to excel but loving it ... I'm looking to be able to get a projection or forecast value from a previous weeks data so that each week going forward always has a projection value based on previous weeks results ... Hope this makes sense? I've looked at the forecast formula but think I'm missing something... Can anyone help ?? P.s. I'm trying to keep it as simple and straight forward as possible for now

Hello and welcome to MR Excel.

Excel has two function for projection of future values:
TREND is more suited to data points in a series such as a time series, and is capable of computing multiple y values for multiple new x values.

FORECAST is more suited to computing a single new y value for a single new x value, not necessarily in a series.

Unfortunately, forecasting is not simple.

Forecasting when time is an element in the "mix" is even more challenging.

For a fairly technical intro to regression analysis, you may want to look at Trendline coefficients
