With the formula:

IF(C2=C1,false,C2)

how do i include the condition that: if A2 contains a value (i.e. is not blank) then leave as C2??

Excel Facts

How to change case of text in Excel?
Use =UPPER() for upper case, =LOWER() for lower case, and =PROPER() for proper case. PROPER won't capitalize second c in Mccartney

Duckfoot,

Try:

=IF(C2=C1,false,If(A2<>"",C2,false))

Or if I've understood wrong and you want the value to be C2 only when C2 is not equal to C1 AND A2 is not equal to nothing then:

=If(And(C2=C1,A2<>""),C2,false)
