# Thread: Countif (only count if data falls within a range)

1. I tried several iterations and I cannot get it to work. I would like to get a count of how many data items fall within a certain range.

For instance, I need a count of how many items have a value between 5 and 15.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

In E1 enter: 5
In E2 enter: 15

When you say between m and n, you need to be specific -- There are 4 possibities:

>= m AND < n
> m AND <= n
> m AND < n [ often called exclusive between ]
>= m AND <= n [ often called inclusive between ]

=COUNTIF(A1:A10,">"&E1)-COUNTIF(A1:A10,">="&E2)

gives you a count based on exclusive between.
